MOTIFS FOR A SOLO DANCER

Our latest release, and the second installment of Motif & Variations is now finished and available for sale. It is a superb resource for improving dance performance via a specially designed, Martha Graham influenced 3 minute piece, performed by the excellent professional dancer, Lauren Potter.

This resource is the result of 14 years of development by Bedford Interactive, and uses the very latest software and facilities available today. The level of control, the quality of the video and sheer amount of functionality is unprecedented.

The dance has been filmed from the front, the back and 39 other special angle or detail clips to enhance the quality of the information available to someone learning the piece for performance. High quality, full screen video ensures no nuance or subtle movement is lost, and slow motion facilitates the detailed study of each second of the piece.

Four main, full dance video clips are provided:

-

1.    VIEW:
FRONT VIEW    minimal overlays & no transport control - for simply viewing the piece.

2.    APPRECIATION:
(and creative expression)   FRONT VIEW    Main work view, both for appreciation work and creative expression. Includes 9 overlays with maps, playback controls, view options, alternate modes, bar . beat counter, return from option clip settings, time elapsed thermometer and innovative, discreet access menus to the 18 teaching blocks.

-

The 39 optional views available in the APPRECIATION mode include detail, alternative angle and overhead views to supplement the main sequence. The alternatives available change as the dance progresses and are accessed via an overlaid menu.
When an option view is running it takes up most of the screen, but a small version of the full front view is also included, simultaneously & synchronized to each option.

All menus are examples of Head Up Displays (HUD) which were first used in fighter aircraft. This technique allows full screen video to be displayed at the same time as loads of other information (or controls) without it becoming obtrusive. Specially neutral backgrounds were chosen for filming and the dance floor was marked out to facilitate accurate positioning in space, with the help of a small animated map on screen.

3.    LEARN:
BACK VIEW    designed especially for learning the piece, with map, bar . beat, access menu.

4.    NOTATE:
BACK VIEW    another learning mode, with full control + synchronized LABANOTATION to the whole dance.
